Theatre Access Course

The Theatre Access course is designed to prepare all medical representatives for visiting and working within the operating theatre environment.

The aim of the theatre access course is to provide candidates with the knowledge and skills required for them to perform their work role without compromising patient care or safety. The course will enable them to:

  • Have a working understanding of the Perioperative team members and their roles and responsibilities
  • Gain an oversight of the process involved before, during and after surgical procedures
  • Understand the basic principles of cross infection and the responsibilities as a visitor to theatre
  • Understand the principles of patient confidentiality and consent procedure and observe privacy and dignity protocol
  • Gain a basic understanding of the aseptic technique and the responsibilities of the Perioperative team to maintain this
